Everybody is as excited as Scotty McCreery and Gabi Dugal as they are going to tie the knot this year. Although the couple didn’t specify the exact date of their wedding yet, they mentioned how excited they are. The two are sending out invitations and tasting cakes already. They might be young but they were meant to be together.

McCreery and Dugal started attending red carpets together after being engaged. Their first red carpet together after their engagement was last year at the CMA Awards show. They also attended the ACM Award show last April 2018. Don’t they look adorable together?

Before Scotty McCreery ties the knot with his beautiful fiancé Gabi Dugal and starts a new chapter in his life, let’s take a look at McCreery when he was a young teenager who took chances and how turned out to be the gentleman he is right now.

Scotty McCreery and His Family

Scotty didn’t get to where he is right now just by luck or magic or anything else, he worked hard to achieve what he is right now. He was born in Garner, North Carolina from his parents Judy and Michael McCreery. He also has an older sister Ashley. Scotty grew up in a family that is close to one another. Therefore, whenever he writes songs, you can notice that sometimes there are themes like family. Just like in his latest song “Five More Minutes,” which was dedicated to his late grandfather, Bill McCreery, and whom he grew up to admire.

Scotty McCreery’s Influence

Scotty’s first influence on country music was Elvis Presley. When he was 6 years old he learned about Elvis. It triggered his interest in music and to learn to play the guitar. He also mentions that Garth Brooks was one of his influences in the music industry. He even got excited when Brooks’ asked him to open for his show in South Dakota. Other musical influences were Conway Twitty, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash.

Before American Idol

People knew Scotty McCreery from the tenth season of American Idol. However, before joining American Idol Scotty was part of different musical and singing contests. When he was in elementary and high school he actively participated in choirs, and thus this helped him develop his talent as a singer. He also participated in his church choral group when he was in high school. Furthermore, he joined a singing contest in 2009, “Clayton Idol,” and won the contest. Other contests and shows that he performed at were Rip the Hallways, Gift 4, and Boot, Band, and Bulls concert. At a very young age, he already discovered his talent as a singer and he is truly good at it. All of his exposure to these contests and shows gave him the confidence to give it a try to audition at American Idol. This is where his life began as a country singer.

American Idol

Joining American Idol was the turning point of his life. It gave him the opportunity to be part of the country music industry. He auditioned for the 10th season of American Idol in Milwaukee when he was 16 years old. With his deep voice and southern charisma, he got the judges attention and they loved him. The first song he performed in his very first audition was “Your Man” by Josh Turner. Josh Turner and Scotty had a similar deep voice, that when listening to Scotty sing “Your Man” it was like listening to Turner himself. Another song that he prepared him was “Put Some Drive in Your Country” by Travis Tritt. His second song won him a ticket to Hollywood and his dream to win the American Idol.

During the shows season finale Scotty performed “Gone” by Montgomery Gentry, “Check Yes or No” by George Strait and he debuts his first single “I Love You This Big.” He won American Idol season 10 when he was only 17 years old, making him the youngest male contestant to win the American Idol.

His First Single: “I Love You This Big”

After winning American Idol he released his first single “I Love You This Big.” The first debuts his single during his final competition in American Idol, a lot of fans had a positive response to his song. Therefore, it landed on No. 15 on the US Billboard Hot Country Song and No. 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100. His song was certified gold on its first week of release. The song was written by Brett James, Ester Dean, Ronnie Jackson, and Jay Smith.

First Album: Clear as Day

The same year that he won American Idol he signed with Mercury Nashville and released his first album Clear as Day. The first track on his album was “I Love You This Big.” The album also contained tracks from an old gospel song, “Old King James” and a song from Keith Urban, “Walk in the Country.” Clear as Day peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard Top Country albums for 6 weeks, No.1 on the US Billboard Top Album Sales for one week, and No. 1 on the US Billboard Digital Albums for 1 week in 2011. Since the album sold millions of copies and topped the charts immediately, it made Scotty’s album Platinum certified in 2011.

While he was busy recording his songs he also went on tour for the American Idol Live Concert Show. Then, after releasing his first album, Scotty performed in various award shows with other famous country musicians.

Christmas Album

His second album was released in 2012. It was a Christmas-themed album entitled Christmas with Scotty McCreery. His album contained two traditional Christmas songs, “First Noel” and “O Holy Night.” It was released under the same record label Mercury Nashville. His album was certified Gold and peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums and No. 4 on the US Billboard Top Album Sales in 2012.

Second Album: See You Tonight

See You Tonight was McCreery’s second album after releasing his Christmas album. Again his album peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums in 2013 for 1 week, No. 6 on the US Billboard Top Album Sales, and No. 10 on the US Billboard Digital Albums in 2013. Number two track on the album is “See You Tonight” that reached No. 10 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs. 5 songs in his album were co-written by him, “Now,” “See You Tonight,” “Can You Feel it,” “I Don’t Wanna Be your Friend,” and “Something more.”

Parting with His Record Label

Before McCreery parted with his record label he released a new single with them, “Southern Belle.” His last song with the label only landed at No. 45 on the US Billboard Country Airplay and No. 36 on the US Billboard Country Digital Song Sales chart. It seems that the song didn’t fit Scotty but, his record label asked him to release the song on radio stations resulting to a low sales and Billboard chart position. After his last song, he was dropped by his label. By the time he was dropped by his record label, Scotty was mentoring some finalist on the American Idol season 15. He said that he was shocked but he still tried his best to smile and do what he is supposed to do while filming American Idol.

Go Big or Go Home Book

Scotty announced that he was going to release a book he wrote, “Go Big or Go Home: The Journey toward the dream.” He released his autobiographical book in 2016, however, he described it to be more of a travelogue instead of an autobiography. The book is all about a young boy who joined a very famous singing competition in America to become a world known country musician. It also contains memories that are special to him as a kid up until the time he published the book.

The Comeback: An Independent Artist

After not releasing a new album, Scotty came back with a kick-ass song that he released as an independent artist. He released his song “Five More Minutes” in 2016 on country radio, without a record label to represent him. He bet on the song and he won after all. It was the first single to be released by an independent artist that immediately top the charts of Mediabase and Billboards. “Five More Minutes” was co-written by Scotty and was inspired from his childhood days with his grandfather.

His Breakthrough song “Five More Minutes”

“Five More Minutes” is Scotty’s breakthrough song that leads him back to the spotlight. The song peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard Country Airplay for 1 week, No. 4 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs and No. 6 on the US Billboard Country Digital Song Sales chart. The song was created when he was with his producer Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell. They were talking about what were the things they would want to say to the people they love if they have some time given. Criswell was the one who came up with the idea of five more minutes.

He debuts the song in his Grand Ole Opry performance he had in 2016. And people immediately connected with the song and the lyrics. Who doesn’t right? It’s a heartfelt song that makes each and every one of us want to be given just a little time with the person we love; to tell them what we have never told them when they were still alive.

New Record Label: Triple Tigers Records

After being an independent artist for a while he was signed under the Triple Tiger Records/Sony Music in 2017. Triple Tigers is formed by three partnerships, Thirty Tigers, Triple 8 Management and Sony Music Entertainment. The record label gave him a chance and they weren’t disappointed with the outcome. His song “Five More Minutes” made it to the top of the charts and his new album Seasons Change is a chart-topping album.

Fourth Album: Seasons Change

Seasons Change is McCreery’s fourth and new album that was released last March 2018. After 4 years of not releasing a new album, McCreery was excited about this one. He said that Seasons Change is a very personal album since it contained songs that were co-written by him and were all based on his experiences in life. It is really easy to write something if you know the feeling. The first track of the album is “Seasons Change.” Of course his No. 1 song “Five More Minutes” is part of his album, at track no. 4. “This is it” a song written for his beautiful fiancé Gabi Dugal. “This is it” is a love song that perfectly fits for a wedding day dance.

After years of waiting, Scotty jumped back on top of the charts with his fourth album. His recent album peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums for 8 weeks, No. 2 on the US Billboard Top Album Sales and No. 4 on the US Billboard Digital Albums chart.

The album is a collection of the experiences he had in his life and like the older version of Scotty. He has been through a lot of changes in his life, thus the title of the album and the songs itself do suit one another. His life had never been the same since then, he lost his grandfather, he moved out of his house, he was dropped by his label, got engaged with Gabi and as mentioned on his website, he was robbed at gunpoint.

Seasons Change is truly Scotty’s most personal album that you want to get your hands on if you want to know him well.
