If you have turned on the radio once in 2015, you have probably heard a Sam Hunt song. Hunt co-wrote some country artists singles such as Kenny Chesney’s “Come Over”. Also, he wrote Keith Urban’s “Cop Car”, and Billy Currington’s “We Are Tonight”. His debut album Montevallo was released in 2014. Since then, the country neophyte has released four singles, and they have quickly transcended into hits. If one song has become a huge achievement so far, it is definitely “Take Your Time”.  It has ripped a spot on both the country and pop charts. Additionally, Hunt’s biggest song, “Take Your Time”, helped him get nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys and received a nod for Best Country Album.

“Take Your Time”, Song Facts

Like many artists, Sam Hunt co-wrote “Take Your Time” with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. Initially, it was released to country radio on November 2014. The song became Hunt’s second consecutive single to reach number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in February 2015. The song is a mid-tempo ballad with a half-spoken, half-sung delivery. It is about a man approaching a woman and voicing a desire to know her more closely. He wants the woman to take her time by getting to know her better. He does not want to rush into anything with her. As you go on listening to the song, you will feel exactly how she makes him feel. He thinks she is someone worth taking her time, which, by the way, is keeping her from doing something else to get to know.

Big Hit for A Beginning

Since Montevallo was released, Sam Hunt has created his own, specific sound where he spends half his songs talking and half singing. This style was what Brad Paisley demonstratively calls “Sam Hunting”. We can hear this style in “Take Your Time” and many of his other tracks, and it is absolutely a good thing. In a world where a lot of country music sounds the same with parallel themes like women, beer, and trucks, big trucks, it is always nice to hear something unlike every once in a while.

“Take Your Time” is the perfect introduction to what Sam Hunt can do. If you are new to Hunt, this song is a good example to start with. Here is Sam Hunt performing at the Grand Ole Opry.
