Loving someone who is with somebody else is difficult, more so if you two are having an affair. You fall in love without knowing it and end up breaking someone’s heart. This is the theme of the song, “The Way We Make A Broken Heart,” covered by Rosanne Cash.
The Song’s Content
The narrator in the song together with her lover are both trying to find a way to end his current relationship with another woman. They were obviously in love with each other. However, they are not allowed to be together because the narrator’s lover is currently in a relationship with another woman. In the song, the narrator has a step-by-step plan to get rid of her lover’s girlfriend. She has four steps to make this happen.
“Lesson number one we’ve just begun to hurt her so
And with lesson two she’ll long for you when lights are low…
When we get to lesson three when she gets down on her knees…
And with lesson four there will be no more for her to bear…”
With all of the narrator’s step, it will inevitably lead to someone’s heart to be broken.
