There are some people who always want to get what someone already has. For instance, in a relationship, even though they know that the person they are with is in a committed relationship, they try to ruin it. They try to convince that person to end what they have just to be with them. This is the topic in Kenny Rogers and Ronnie Milsap’s recording, “Make No Mistake, She’s Mine.”

Kenny Rogers and Ronnie Milsap’s Version

In 1987, Kenny and Ronnie collaborated to record the single “Make No Mistake, She’s Mine.” The two country singers added the song in their individual albums. Ronnie included it in his eighteenth studio album, Heart and Soul, while Kenny included the song as one of the tracks in his album I Prefer the Moonlight. Their rendition reached number one on the country chart of Billboard. In addition, the song crossed over the pop chart at number forty-two. Kenny and Ronnie won the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration for the song they recorded.

The Original Version

“Make No Mistakes, She’s Mine” was not originally a recording of Kenny and Ronnie. They changed the title to fit their gender. The song was first recorded as “Make No Mistakes, He’s Mine.” Kim Carnes wrote the song in 1984 and it was first recorded by her and Barbara Streisand. Carnes and Streisand’s rendition entered the chart, and it placed at number eight on the Adult Contemporary chart. Moreover, their song secured the 51st spot on the Hot 100 chart.

Other Cover

The song has another version, and this time it was a collaboration of a male and female artists. In 2013, an episode in the TV series Glee featured this song. It was performed by Naya Rivera and Chord Overstreet.

“Make No Mistake, She’s Mine” talks about a man trying to warn another guy who is trying to steal his lover away. He reminds him that she loves him, and she needs him every time. However, towards the end of the song, the narrator mentions that his woman is spending time with another man.

You were out on the town
With her in your arms (her in your arms)
With her in your arms (her in your arms)
Don’t include her in your dreams
‘Cause I don’t want to close my eyes
No I don’t want to know where she goes each night when she leaves
