What Would You Do, is an American TV program hosted by John Quinones that centers on placing people in certain scenarios and recording their reactions through hidden cameras. It has been airing on ABC, an American TV station, since February of 2008. Earlier this week, they set up a scenario where a single mother could only afford one meal for her and her kids. The reaction of people who saw this happening warmed the hearts of viewers and it truly gave us hope that there is still kindness in this world.
It seems like today there are so many things happening around us, from political issues, social issues, environmental issues, and personal issues; we are overwhelmed with just one problem after another. Added to this, it seems like everyone is now going with the mindset of “You’re on your own, I have my own thing to deal with” and to be fair that is true.
At times, it seems like it is difficult to find others who can stop and help us, it feels like we have to face everything on our own without any help. Yet, videos like these constantly tell us that there is still kindness in the world and that there is still hope for everyone. To anyone that doubts that just watch the video and be touched by the kindness of selfless people.
God, Kindness and Restoring Faith in Humanity
“Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.” – Ephesians 4:32
For us Christians, we need to remember that as long as God exists there will always be hope. We see God’s work happen through the people in the video and it shows us the example of what it is like to be holy. Through their actions, they were able to spread the love of God and show his work.
We also need to remember that though people don’t always see our works and it may even seem like it does nothing, that thought is far from the truth. God sees, and He remembers:
For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints. – Hebrews 6:10
The video may have been staged but the scenario presented is very real, we all know someone who is currently struggling. The best thing we can do is to show some kindness and be a part of restoring faith in humanity.
Be inspired, reflect and do God’s work and listen to “Try A Little Kindness” by Tim Surrett to inspire us to be a part of those restoring faith in humanity.
