Happy birthday wishes go out to Rascal Flatts’ member, Jay DeMarcus, as he turns the big 47 today.

Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus Celebrates His 47th Birthday 3

The singer and instrumentalist were born in Columbus, Ohio, on April 26, 1971. Jay is the second cousin to Flatts’ lead singer, Gary LeVox, and brother-in-law to country singer, James Otto. While Jay is most known as the bass player of the popular trio, Rascal Flatts, he has also recently reaped praises as a producer.

Jay DeMarcus, Before Rascal Flatts

Jay DeMarcus graduated from the Tree of Life Christian School, in Columbus, while living with his mother, sister, and a half-sister. He attended Lee College, in Cleveland, Tennesse. During which, he toured and performed as a keyboard player in the New Harvest, a Christian music group led by Danny Murray. In 1993, DeMarcus co-founded a contemporary Christian music group, East to West, and relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. The group was disbanded in 1997.

He started producing Michael English’s album Gospel when he sought the help of his second cousin, Gary Levox. He convinced Gary to come to Nashville and provide some accords on the album he was working on. They fixed and worked on the album together, and became English’s backup band and road manager.

Moreover, he has also produced albums for Jo Dee Mesina, James Otto, Austins Bridge, and the Chicago band. Soon, he became bandleader for Chely Wright. Eventually, he met Joe Don, Rascal Flatts’ other member. DeMarcus called him to fill in for a guitarist who had left the band one night. Before making it big as Rascal Flatts, Jay DeMarcus, Gary LeVox, and Joe Don Rooney played regularly at a bar in Nashville’s Printer’s Alley.

Jay DeMarcus’ Other Achievements

The group Rascal Flatts was formed in 1999. Since they started, they have had thirteen number one hits, recorded nine albums and won the Country Music Association’s (CMA’s) Vocal Group of the Year honor six times in a row. A run that started back in 2003.

As much as Jay DeMarcus produced plenty of albums, including the latest ones by his band Rascal Flatts, Ronnie Dunn, and Reba McEntire, he also ventured into another field. He expanded his producing horizons by helming his first feature film “All Shook Up”.

Thus began Jay DeMarcus contributions in country music and beyond. Jay met his beautiful wife, Allison Alderson, on the set of their music video for “These Days”. They have two wonderful children.

Happy Birthday, Jay! Our wish for you is that this life becomes all that you want it to.
