Nashville is currently shining incredibly bright, thanks to all the music stars gathered there at the moment all gearing up for the annual award shows coming up. This year, the country music stage will be celebrating one of its brightest stars as the great Randy Travis will soon be receiving one of the more prestigious awards for Country.
The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) will be having their 57th annual Country Music Awards on November this year and will be honoring Randy Travis with one of their most prestigious awards, the Founders Award.
ASCAP Chairman of the Board Paul Williams tells reporters:
“Randy Travis is the seminal country artist of a generation, his meteoric rise to the top of the country charts was fueled by that unmistakable baritone and a talent for traditional country music that spoke to everyone. As a new artist, Randy garnered international attention at a time when such exposure for country artists was reserved for an iconic few. His music and devotion to classic country sounds are a cornerstone in the genre and it is an honor to present him with this year’s Founders Award.”
Randy Travis Receives the Highest Honors from ASCAP
Randy Travis’ award is one that isn’t easily given to just anybody. The Founders Award is presented to those in the industry who have made important contributions to music which inspired and influenced fellow artists.
Recipients of this award are musical innovators, each of whom has unique takes on creating music. They can be said to be musical geniuses, creating art that would help enhance future artists. Other recipients of the award include Rodney Crowell, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Ricky Skaggs, Jackson Browne, Garth Brooks, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty, and Neil Young, among others.
Randy Travis is considered to be a trendsetter that greatly influenced country music. The country legend has sold more than 25 million albums. He has also collected a treasure trove of awards that includes: 7 Grammys, 11 Academy of Country Music Awards, 2 People’s Choice Awards and 8 Dove Awards and these are only a few of the accolades he has gained during his career.
Travis is also known for releasing hit after hit such as “Forever and Ever Amen”, “Whisper My Name”, “I Told You So” and “Diggin Up Bones”. The awards ceremony will honor Travis on November 11.
