We all agree that Christmas is celebrated not just in December, but all-year round. I believe that remembering our savior Jesus Christ every day is what makes life meaningful. His birth, His life, and His resurrection have delivered us from all the sins of this world. It is then but right to reckon Jesus and celebrate every life through Him. This song, “Mary, Did You Know?” is a great melody to listen to. With this superb and soulful rendition of the Pentatonix, the song is taken to another level. Watch the video and praise the Lord. Hallelujah!

“Mary, Did You Know”: A Song That Celebrates the Birth of Jesus

Mary, Did You Know?” is a Christmas song originally recorded by Christian recording artist Michael English. It was included on his self-titled 1991 album. The lyrics were written by Mark Lowry while the music was created by Buddy Greene. To note, English and Lowry were both members of the Gaither Vocal Band at that time.

To note, it peaked at no. 6 on CCM Magazine’s AC Chart. Mark Lowry would record the song with the Gaither Vocal Band on their 1998 Christmas album, Still, the Greatest Story Ever Told.

The song has been recorded by many artists across different genres. In addition, it has gone on to become a modern Christmas classic with different renditions and interpretations. Among notable versions are Kenny Rogers & Wynonna Judd’s, Clay Aiken’s, Cee Lo Green’s, and the Pentatonix’s cover.

In 2014, the American a capella group Pentatonix released a recording of the song. They included it on their album That’s Christmas to Me in the same year. Just after their video was released, their version of “Mary, Did You Know?” was well-received. Their acapella version immediately penetrated the Billboard Hot 100.

In an interview with Artist Direct, Kevin Olusola of Pentatonix explained why they recorded a festive album. He said,

“Christmas is such a great time, especially for a cappella music,” he said. “People are more willing to listen to that style.”

He continued,

“We realized that after our Christmas single ‘The Little Drummer Boy.’ It did so well. We knew we wanted to do something more extensive. That’s when we got the idea of doing a full-length Christmas album.”

Watch and be amazed by the song as interpreted by the Pentatonix.
