Some notable country stars to record their version of this is Willie Nelson, Pat Boone, George Jones, Randy Travis, Bob Dylan, and Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and the Oak Ridge Boys to name some.

Of course, one of the better versions or at least the more wholesome and holy version comes to us through Patsy Cline.

Her performance of the song is solemn, slow and sweet, and it really pushes the message of the hymn closer to us. It isn’t a surprise that her performance is one of the best out there. We really shouldn’t expect any less from the great country icon. Truly, Patsy Cline is able to bring out the best at any country or gospel song she covers.

The Message Of “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”

The song’s title and lyrics are based on a passage from the Bible. It centers on the words in 2 Corinthians 5:7 where it says:

“We walk by faith, not by sight.”

Along with that, it also takes inspiration from another Bible verse, James 4:8, where it states:

“Come near to God and he will come near to you.”

The message of the hymn or song is simple and straight to the point: walk closer to God even when you can’t see Him, just believe that He is there with us always.

We have to walk by faith, we do so because we believe in God, in His message, and in His plans. Jesus emphasizes this when He said, “Blessed are those who believe without seeing.”
