Not ‘The Beatles’ but Buck Owens and Buckaroos, The Original ‘Act Naturally’ Singers

The Beatles have dominated every single chart with their superior musical and vocal prowess with songs smashing every opponent but did you know that one of their songs called Act Naturally was a country original by Buck Owens before it was popularized by the English band?

In 1963, Johnny Russell was writing a song with Voni Morrison who also worked alongside Buck Owens. According to reports, Owens did not really like ‘Act Naturally’ initially but a certain band member from The Buckaroos actually liked the demo recorded by Russell and pursued Owens to record it.

Buck Owens then called Russell and asked for the rights of the song and permission to record it. Before The Beatles, Act Naturally spent the number 1 spot on charts and helped him carve his name on the country pedestal. Watch the video below:

“Act Naturally” Lyrics

They’re gonna put me in the movies
They’re gonna make a big star out of me
We’ll make a film about a man that’s sad and lonely
And all I gotta do is act naturally

Well, I’ll bet you I’m gonna be a big star
Might win an Oscar you can never tell
The movies gonna make me a big star
Cos I can play the part so well

Well I hope you’ll come and see me in the movies
Then I know that you will plainly see
The biggest fool that ever hit the big time
And all I gotta do is act naturally

We’ll make the scene about a man that’s sad and lonely
And begging down upon his bended knee
I’ll play the part and I won’t need rehearsing
All I have to do is act naturally

Well, I’ll bet you I’m gonna be a big star
Might win an Oscar you can never tell
The movies gonna make me a big star
Cos I can play the part so well

Well I hope you’ll come and see me in the movies
Then I know that you will plainly see
The biggest fool that ever hit the big time
And all I gotta do is act naturally
