A family is not complete without the presence of a child. They bring happiness and fulfillment to the couple in order for them to be called parents. But, being a parent is not easy. It takes a lot of guts and responsibilities. Anyway, there is a feeling of self-satisfaction and unexplainable happiness for the parents to see their child grow. Children are the family’s only treasure that no one can take away from them. I know that it is not that easy to raise a child but that’s the perk that comes along with it. Moreover, it will be harder if the child is special. One who needs extra care and attention. But as they say, parents will do anything for their children. Just like Neil Young who has a son with cerebral palsy. He did not give up on him because Young knew that his son is a fighter.

The Loving Father

Neil Young is a well-known singer in the industry. But, he transforms into a different person towards his second son, Ben, who has cerebral palsy. In the past months, tragedy shook the family. They lost their house during the California fire in 2018 and on January 1, 2019, his ex-wife Pegi Young died from battling cancer. That might be so devastating for him to have two tragedies in a span of months. Anyhow, Young is a strong person and most of all, he draws strength from Ben. All of his children are special, both Ben and Zeke are diagnosed with cerebral palsy and Amber with epilepsy.

Ben was born quadriplegic wherein he can’t speak and it further affected his motor skills. Furthermore, Neil Young did not give up on his son as he put efforts to improve his motor skills. Also, Ben always tags along with his father on tours giving him moral support.

Cerebral Palsy attacks muscle control damaging the body’s ability to move and this usually happens if the brain developed abnormally. Medical experts tell us that there is no cure for cerebral palsy but parents can manage the outcome to avoid this, here are the recommendations:

  1. Avoid drugs, smoking, and binge-drinking
  2. Ensure that there aren’t any existing diseases that are not treated
  3. Always visit your doctor
