Country singer Chris Stapleton can’t really take all the glory for all his successes. He claims that he’s a part of a dynamic duo.
As the saying goes, “Behind every great man is a great woman”.
The instance is undoubtedly true for Chris. What we’re trying to cite is that the woman is not just behind him. She is also beside him every time Chris performs. Who’s his undoubtedly starting backup singer? Let me spoil the excitement right away. Yes, it his wife, Morgane Stapleton.
Getting To Know Her More
A songwriter. Morgane built a name for herself in the music industry. She is a brilliant songwriter in her own right. Some of the songs she wrote were: “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” by Carrie Underwood, which she also provided vocals “You Ain’t Right” for LeAnn Rimes.
She inspired a hit album. Chris’ song “Traveller”, is about the death of his father, a country music lover and coal miner. His father was a big influence in his life. In an interview with The Tennessean, Morgane talked about her idea to buy a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and take a cross-country road trip to get Chris inspired. One way she knew that would help Chris cope with his grief. She recalled,
“We looked at each other like, ‘Yeah, we’re finally doing this,’ and then gas started spewing everywhere. We called the seller and he said, ‘Oh, you can’t fill (the tank) all the way”.
They had a shaky trip, but a hit album arose. And, it garnered a million sales. What a dangerous yet inspiring idea!
How They Met
Chris and Morgane met through music. They are now happily married for a decade. Since the beginning, Morgane has been by his side. She’s the mother of Chris Stapleton’s two kids. In an interview with the Washington Post, she said,
“We’d hear the jingle of his keys as he walked down the hall, and we knew he was coming to play us whatever new song he had written. Eventually he asked me to write a song with him, and that ended up being our first date. We didn’t get much writing done that night,”
Morgane admitted she had a crush on Chris because of his musical talents. In return, Chris cited she was a stalker.
Chris’ life and song consultant. In one of their joint interviews, the two talked about how they arrive at the same point whenever they talk about songs.
“I don’t know about every step, but — yeah, he definitely, I think, leans on me for songs. And then there’s some, too, that he’s just determined to do. Traveller actually, was one of those, where — not that it wasn’t on my list, but I had songs ahead of it. And I was wrong about that one, so — maybe not every step of the way, but definitely a lot of the steps”, Morgane told NPR. To which Chris added, “I’ll plant a flag on things, and she’ll plant a flag on things, too. ‘No, don’t do that,’ or ‘you really need to do this”.
This kind of teamwork is evident on Chris’ hit album, “From a Room: Volume 1”. It has gained positive reviews supporting his status as a country star.
Before concerts and live performances, Ms. Stapleton is singing with him, gathering songs, and deciding what tune to go play. They both figure it all out and do it together in the end. It has become a comfortable thing.
Indeed, a symphonic partnership. Don’t you think?
