Not Parton's Song, But Johnson’s “I Will Always Love You” 1

Standing by my window, listening for your call
Seems I really miss you after all
Time won’t let me keep these sad thoughts to myself
I’d just like to let you know, I wish I’d never let you go

And I’ll always love you…

Still having a Valentine feels? Oh yes, this Valentine Special is for sure a week long or even a month long. Now, this song is still dedicated to each and everyone…

I’ll Always Love You” is a single by Michael Johnson, released in 1979 along with his fifth album, Dialogue. Despite failing to chart in the Hot 100, this song is a big hit in the Philippines.

Not Dolly’s but Michael’s…

The title alone of the song would easily remind everyone to think of the song written by Dolly Parton and revived by Whitney Houston. But who could have thought that there exists an “I Will Always Love You” from another artist? Not a cover, not a rendition, not a revival, but a completely different yet equally beautiful music. Yes, it is Michael Johnson’s sensational song.

However, this song did not make it to the charts. Despite not making it, it became a hit in other countries, especially in the Philippines.

In an interview, Michael Johnson revealed that the result of all that effort is that he feels better about Lifetime Guarantee than any of this other albums with the exception of Dialogue, which came out in 1979 and contained his last U.S. hit “This Night Won’t Last Forever” as well as his last hit of any kind, “I’ll Always Love You” which was high on the charts in the Philippines.

“I enjoyed the doing of it,” he said of his new album, regardless of what it does (in sales).”

Other versions…

In 1979, “I’ll Always Love You” was covered by Canadian country singer Anne Murray from her album of the same title under Capitol Records.

Moreover, the song took off in the Philippines. It was covered by Filipino pop and R&B singer Nina in February 2006 under Warner Music Philippines. In 2010, the song was included on Nina’s compilation album, Diamond: Greatest Hits 2002-2010.

Enjoy the song and feel it with its meaningful words…

Standing by my window, listening for your call
Seems I really miss you after all
Time won’t let me keep these sad thoughts to myself
I’d just like to let you know, I wish I’d never let you go

And I’ll always love you
Deep inside this heart of mine
I do love you
And I’ll always need you
And if you ever change your mind
I’ll still, I will love you

I wish you’d never left me but love’s a mystery
You can break a heart so easily
Oh the days and nights reveal how much I feel for you
Time has come for me to see how much your love has meant to me

And I’ll always love you
And if you ever change your mind
I’ll still, I will love you

Time like a river keeps on rolling right on by
Nothing left for me to do
So I watch the river rise

And I’ll always love you
Deep inside this heart of mine
I do love you
And I’ll always need you
And if you ever change your mind
I’ll still, I will
And I’ll still, I will love you…
