We all want to move to big cities and have a glamorous life over there, but we don’t know that reality is far more different than our expectations. Living in a big city is great. There’s a lot of places to go and opportunities to come, however you have to face the consequence. The noise, the crowd, the never-ending work, and the pressure to fit in.

The song, “Big City” was included in the movie Fargo, in 1996.
The Song’s Content
Merle Haggard always knew how to write songs that will make you feel like he’s telling your story. His song “Big City” is a story of a man who came from a small town and moved to a big city to work in order to survive. But, due to the pressure, he felt the need to work hard in the city, he missed his small humble town. The narrator wanted to go to somewhere far away from the city crowd to a place where freedom is not difficult to achieve. I think everybody desires that peace and clean, fresh air to breathe.
Merle Haggard’s Song Inspiration
Haggard was in the big city that time, Los Angeles when he was inspired to write the song. However, he said that when he was writing the song, he wasn’t thinking about Los Angeles but another city. When Haggard was talking with his friend, Dean Holloway, he complained that he was tired of the city so he wanted to go somewhere not crowded. Immediately he had an idea for the song. He even asked Holloway where he would rather be. Until he finally finished writing the song the same day. Amazing right? Haggard is truly gifted in writing songs.
