Mac McAnally, one of the most acclaimed and respected songwriter-producers in the world of country music, announces the release of his newest LP, Southbound. According to McAnally, his latest LP is the first of its kind in all of his previous work. It is both an orchestral spin and an exploration of his most loved songs. He adds that his newest album could be likened to an exciting journey filled with reflective emotions, and a huge chunk of his heart, soul, and wit.
“I’m a bashful guy, and I’m not the most self-confident by nature, but this batch of songs, particularly maybe in four or five cases these were songs that all my life I’ve really wanted another shot at singing. Partially because I’m such a bashful guy, I’ve never been the most confident singer. I’m more of a background singer.”
shares McAnally. Mississippi’s rich cultural heritage is evidently portrayed in all the tracks’ musical arrangement. It speaks well of the renowned songwriter’s beloved hometown.
The orchestral record for Southbound was conducted by Jay Dean, Music Director at the University of Southern Mississippi. Student musicians hailing from Hattiesburg-based school’s symphony orchestra, along with members of McAnally’s Coral Reefer Band are also featured in his latest LP.
The best part about this album is the charitable goal behind it. The proceeds from the album are being divided between charitable organizations, Extra Table, and the University of Southern Mississippi’s music program.
Mac McAnally has been a consistent producer of high-quality country music ever since he made it to the Billboard Top Forty with his deep and perceptive work, It’s a Crazy World. Mac was only 16 when he wrote the song, and by the time it became a major hit, he had just turned 19 years old. He has also written countless hit songs for fellow country artists, including Crime of Passion for Van Shelton, Precious Thing for Steve Wariner, and Old Flame for Alabama.
Fans will surely be delighted by this ultra-talented country songwriter’s fresh new take on his amazing songs.
