Today we remember Lynn Anderson as it has been four years since her death. Anderson was known for her rendition of the song “Rose Garden.” But who is Lynn Anderson before and what did she contribute to country music?

Younger Years

Lynn Rene Anderson was born on September 26, 1947, in North Dakota. Lynn Anderson’s love of country music was influenced by her parents who writes country music. Anderson’s mother is a country singer like her too, Liz Anderson.  She also met Merle Haggard when she was young and sang with him. Her parents and her exposure to her parents work made her into one of the best female country musicians.

Before she discovered that she has a talent for singing, Anderson won numerous times in horse shows. In 1966, she brought home the “California Horse Show Queen” award.

First Song and Album

On the same year that Lynn won the “California Horse Show Queen,” she had her first recording in country music. “For Better or For Worse” was the first song she recorded with Jerry Lane. She also released another solo single “Ride, Ride, Ride” which entered the Billboard Country chart at No. 36. This was her first song to enter the chart. In 1967, Lynn released her very first album Ride, Ride, Ride. Her album peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard Top Country Album.

“Rose Garden”

“Rose Garden” became Lynn Anderson’s biggest hit and her first song to peak at No. 1 on the Billboard Country chart. It also crossed over to the pop chart at No. 3. “Rose Garden” was originally by Joe South, which was named “(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden.” Her song also became famous outside the US. She received her first Platinum-certified song from RIAA in 1971.

Awards

Lynn Anderson won her first award in 1967 in the ACM for Top Female Vocalist. In 1971, her song “Rose Garden” made her won two major awards, the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and CMA Female Vocalist of the Year. She won other accolades until 2010.

Death

Anderson died on July 30, 2015, after having a heart attack, at the age of 67.

It may have been four years since Anderson left us, but her music will always be one of the best and Anderson will also be one of the best female country singers in history.
