Do you know where God is at the moment? If you are to call upon His name, will God respond to your call? God is not far away from us. We may think that because there are a lot of people in this world God is busy somewhere else. However, that is not the case. It may be hard to believe, but God is closer to us than we thought. He is just next to us, anytime we call His name He will listen. Therefore, do not think that God has forgotten you when He is silent. He is just quietly listening to you.

Nearer My God to Thee Album

The Louvin Brothers who are well-known for their gospel music released their third album Nearer My God to Thee in 1957. This was their third gospel album since they started their career. Their album included classical hymns and also some original recordings from them. Classical Hymns that the Louvin Brothers recorded for their album were “Are You Washed in the Blood?” “This Little Light of Mine,” and “Lord, I’m Coming Home.”

The Song’s Inspiration

“Nearer, My God, To Thee” is a classical hymn included in the Louvin Brothers same-titled album.  Sarah Flower Adams wrote the song in the 19th century. The hymn is associated with the tune of Lowell Mason’s “Bethany.” Sarah based the song’s lyrics from the book of Genesis 28.

Genesis 28

Genesis 28 is the story of Jacob’s dream about God talking to him. God came to Jacob in a dream and told Jacob about His plans for His people.

“I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.” Genesis 28: 13-14

He promised that He would not leave Jacob’s side until He fulfills His promise. True to His words God indeed kept His promise to Jacob.

“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Genesis 28: 15

No matter how many people there are on this planet God will listen to us, He would always be near us like He is with Jacob. Moreover, He will guide us and protect us, just like Jacob. He will always keep His promise that we will inherit His kingdom as long as we will follow Him.
