She is one of the well-loved artists who has made great contributions to music and the arts. As such, her plethora of achievements and recognition attest to this.
In the 2016 CMA Awards, Parton earned the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.
Instituted in 2012, the Willie Nelson Lifetime Award is conferred by the Country Music Association (CMA) to an artist who has been iconic and has attained the highest degree of recognition in Country Music. Also, he/she has achieved both national and international prominence and stature. These are achieved by the artist through concert performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, record sales, and public representation at the highest level. All these have one condition, the recipient must have positively have impacted and contributed to the growth of the genre over time.
Indeed, Parton has certainly lived up to the award. She has exemplified what the meaning and definition of the award is. Her oozing talent, confidence, charisma, and humility are what gave her the honors she truly deserves.
With this, there is no arguing that Parton is an icon and a legend worth mentioning and remembering. Her legacy remains, and she is truly a living treasure.
However, despite the immense fame she is savoring now, she always goes back to her humble beginnings. Growing up, she would always remember how life hit her and her siblings. She grew up in a small town in Tennessee and crammed in a tiny cabin along with her brothers and sisters.
A Little Girl With Big Dreams
Despite living in a small, cozy home in Tennessee, Parton has had a big dream. And, this dream was not just for the house. Hence, at 13, she found herself at a studio where she recorded her first song ever.
Co-written by Parton, “Puppy Love” is her first song ever. It features her adorable teenage voice. The song is about a sweetheart of hers.
In an interview, Parton shared the “Puppy Love” was the song that opened many doors for a lavish career. She said
“In many ways, ‘Puppy Love’ was the start of this whole journey.”
