Lisa Marie Presley, who is currently mourning the loss of her son Benjamin, definitely had a lot to live up to. She took the same path as her legendary father, Elvis Presley, pursuing a career in music. While she might not be as celebrated for her talents as her late father, she continues to honor his legacy in her own way.
Let’s get to know more about the king of rock ‘n’ roll’s daughter.
She Is The Only Child Of Elvis Presley
Born on February 1, 1968, Lisa Marie Presley is the only child of singer and actor Elvis Presley and actress Priscilla Presley, making her the sole heir to her father’s massive estate in Graceland. Elvis Presley died in 1977 when Lisa Marie was only nine years old.
On her 25th birthday, she inherited the estate, which had grown to an estimated $100 million.
She Has Been Married Four Times – Twice To Major Celebrities
Lisa Marie Presley’s first marriage was to musician Danny Keough in 1988, a marriage that lasted to six years. The two have remained close friends and musical collaborators.
Next was Lisa Marie’s most publicized union when she married Michael Jackson in 1994. They got hitched when allegations against the King of Pop were sprouting like mushrooms. Lisa Marie became his main source of emotional support. However, their marriage did not last long as they divorced two years after.
She stayed single for a few more years until she found herself in another marriage with actor, Nicholas Cage. As with her marriage to Michael Jackson, it also lasted just two years.
Lisa Marie’s fourth marriage was her longest. In 2006, she walked down the aisle with musician Michael Lockwood, but it ended in a never-ending legal battle.
She’s A Mother of Four
Lisa Marie had two children with her first husband, a daughter Danielle Riley Keough and a son Benjamin Keough. Riley is a model and an actress known for her appearances in films such as Magic Mike, Mad Max: Fury Road, Logan Lucky, and The Girlfriend Experience.
Tragically, her son Benjamin died aged 27 in July 2020 from an apparent suicide. Lisa Marie is reported to be “completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated,” following the sad news.
In 2008, Lisa Marie gave birth to fraternal twin girls, Finley Aaron Love and Harper Vivienne Ann, she share with her fourth husband.
She is ‘Ferociously Protective’ of Her Kids
Lisa Marie Presley previously opened up about being a “ferociously protective” parent.
Back in October 2014, Presley spoke to Healthy Living magazine about her family, which she called “just very normal.”
“I am very protective,” she said. “I just smother them in love, and I am also ferociously protective. They are my priority. That’s what I do. That’s what I care most about. I keep them close to me and make sure they are happy and healthy.”
Presley explained that even when her kids reach adulthood, loving and caring for them will never end.
“When they get older, sometimes I don’t think it ever ends. When they get past 18, I think their problems just get bigger to be honest; that’s always a struggle,” she said. “… We all kind of hold each other up; we are all each other’s best friends. I’m theirs, but I am also their mother.”
She Has Overcome Drug Addiction
Lisa Marie Presley opened up about her “own addiction to opioids and painkillers” in a foreword she wrote for the book The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain by Harry Nelson.
“You may read this and wonder how, after losing people close to me, I also fell prey to opioids,” Presley wrote. Her father had an opioid addiction, too, while her ex-husband Michael Jackson died of an overdose.
She explained that her addiction started when a doctor prescribed her opioids for pain while recovering after giving birth to her twins. Her addiction had worsened when her latest marriage to Lockwood began to crumble. “The last year of our marriage, I was abusing cocaine terribly,” she said. When asked if her drug usage was heavy, she answered, “It was bad, yeah.” The mixing came the last few years: “I didn’t mix the pills and alcohol until, like, the last two years.”
Now that she’s on the better side, Lisa Marie “is “grateful to be alive today,” and she’s hoping to inspire others. “Many more people are suffering silently, addicted to opioids and other substances. I am writing this in the hope that I can play a small part in focusing attention on this terrible crisis,” she said.
Her Net Worth is Estimated to Be On the Negative Side
Elvis Presley might have been known as “The King,” but his daughter is not living a princess’s life. According to Celebrity Networth, Lisa Marie Presley’s estimated net worth is -$16 million, which is almost a state of bankruptcy.
The depth of Lisa Marie’s debt became public knowledge when she filed for divorce from her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood. The court papers revealed she had -$16 million to her name, with total liquid assets of less than $20,000 and a staggering $500,000 in credit card debt.
The sole heir of Elvis Presley’s estate definitely had an epic financial loss. She sold 85 percent of her rights to the Elvis Presley estate only to lose it all. She blamed her business manager Barry Siegel for making some bad business deals, suing him in 2018. She claimed Siegel paid himself $701,000 per year and left her with only $14,000 to her name, which is certainly not enough cash to cover her lavish living expenses.
Siegel counter-sued and said Lisa Marie was to blame for squandering away her father’s fortune by over-spending.
