To celebrate the Birthday of Lionel Richie, let’s listen to his single “Stuck On You.” One of the many best country songs ever penned.
Stuck On You…
Lionel Richie, himself, is the songwriter behind the words and lyrics of “Stuck On You.” It was released on May 1, 1984, and was the fourth single from his album “Can’t Slow Down.” It was the only song from the album that sounds country. Indeed, the song and the album mark Lionel’s country career debut.
Before becoming a star, Lionel was a tennis player in his high school days. Born and raised in Tuskegee, Alabama, Lionel became a member of a group called Commodores. Then, he decided to pursue his career as a solo. With this, Lionel wrote songs that topped the charts such as “Easy,” “Three Times a Lady,” “Still,” and “Sail On.”
Furthermore, in the 70’s, Lionel began writing songs for other artists. He wrote “Lady” which was recorded and released by Kenny Rogers. The song became No.1 in the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 1980. Not only that, but Lionel also produced an album for Kenny after the success of “Lady.”
In 2012, Lionel released his 10th studio album “Tuskegee.” It featured 13 of his singles with duets of different country artists. They are Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington, Little Big Town, Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, and Jimmy Buffett. The album returned his name on the Billboard 200 chart after long years. It became the No.1 album, and it was certified platinum.
