Do you remember LeAnn Rimes‘ performance of Patsy Cline’s song in 2013 during the American Country Awards Show? The ACA celebrated Patsy Cline’s 50th Death Anniversary by inviting country singer LeAnn Rimes to perform Patsy Cline’s songs. LeAnn is a huge fan of Patsy Cline. She has previously honored her idol by recording some of her songs on her album. Her self-titled album released in 1999 contained five Patsy Cline songs that she covered.

LeAnn performed a medley of Patsy’s songs (“Leavin’ on Your Mind,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “Crazy,” and “Sweet Dreams”). Her performance was a stunning one, especially when LeAnn performed “Sweet Dreams” at the end and she was not accompanied by any music. She almost hit the last not, but she became emotional. LeAnn broke down in tears as she ended the song. She whispered,

“I love you Patsy, Thank You.”

Patsy Cline’s Hit Songs

Patsy Cline is one of country music’s biggest stars. She is known for her hit songs “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “She’s Got You,” “Crazy,” and “Sweet Dreams.” Cline and Kitty Wells are two of the country singers who paved the way for female country singers to shine in this genre of music. Aside from that Cline became a standard for most country musicians. Many country singers admire her like LeAnn Rimes and Reba McEntire.

Patsy Cline’s Death

On March 5, 1963, Patsy Cline died when her plane crashed in the forest of Camden, Tennessee. By that time, Patsy was only 30 years old. All of her belongings discovered in the area where the plane crashed were donated to the Country Hall of Fame, including the watch she was wearing.

Many have tried to copy Patsy’s way of singing, but it is only LeAnn Rimes who is one step closer to Patsy. The crowd felt the emotion of LeAnn as she sang one of her favorite singer’s iconic songs.  LeAnn’s performance that night reminds us of how great she is as a country singer.
