In recent interviews, highly renowned and charming country singer LeAnn Rimes dishes about her small role in the movie Logan Lucky.
The film, which stars bright, talented actors Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Seth MacFarlane, and Riley Keough is all about two brothers who attempt to pull off a robbery during a NASCAR race in North Carolina. Jimmy Logan (Tatum), a family man in West Virginia, decides to join forces with his one-armed brother Clyde (Driver) and sister Mellie (Keough) so they can steal cash from North Carolina’s Charlotte Motor Speedway. In the process of their wicked master plan, Logan includes a demolition expert into their small team to help them break in more easily into the underground system of the tracks. However, the gang is faced with a dire dilemma when they find themselves entangled in a sudden mix-up in the midst of escaping the unyielding pursuit of an FBI agent during a high-energy NASCAR race.
So how does the lovely LeAnn Rimes fit into the whole picture?
According to the 34-year-old country star, she was approached by the film’s director, Steven Soderbergh after he watched her perform the US national anthem at the Indy 500 motorsport event at Speedway, Indiana. The event and Rimes’ performance took place in May 2014. Soderbergh was searching for a singer whose voice would best fit the track ‘American Beautiful’.
“It was the easiest thing I’ve ever done, honestly”, Rimes nonchalantly admits.
After she flew to Atlanta to where the film was being shot, Rimes was asked to sing the song just twice. Truth be told, prior to her actual performance for Logan Lucky, the singer was anxious over whether she would have to sing the entire eight verses of the patriotic tune. She first clarified the eight verses with the producer. When the producer replied, ‘Oh yeah, [the director] wants all eight verses’, LeAnn requested that she talk to the director. And thankfully she did—for she was able to clarify that Soderbergh only needed her to sing just two.
Logan Lucky was released on August 9, 2017, on Knoxville and on August 18, 2017, in the U.S.
