Picture perfect memories
Scattered all around the floor
Reaching for the phone ’cause, I can’t fight it anymore
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time

“Need You Now” was a indeed the song that Lady Antebellum needed to finally take a hold of their career breakthrough. The song took them from rising stars to one of the industry’s top acts. The song that tells of a conversation between lonely man and a woman reaching out for late-night companionship. Its universal theme and rhythmic arrangement made it stand out on the radio. It is common among most people to yearn for someone to be with, especially when you were attacked by the element of loneliness, in the middle of the night. For some, they may resort to drinking beers to drown their emotion, but some would look for a partner to help ease whatever they are feeling.

“Need You Now” is the first single from Country trio Lady Antebellum’s second year album. Group members Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott, along with co-writer Josh Kear wrote this song.

“All three of us know what it’s like to get to that point where you feel lonely enough that you make a late night phone call that you very well could regret the next day. But you do it anyway because it’s the only thing that’s going to give you any relief in that moment.” – Hillary Scott

Hillary Scott explained that the song and many others on their sophomore album are about what we are learning as we go through the ups and downs of different relationships.

It’s a quarter after one, I’m all alone and I need you now
Said I wouldn’t call but I lost all control and I need you now
And I don’t know how I can do without, I just need you now

Josh Kear shared how quickly the song went into writing during the pre-telecast segment of the Grammy awards. Interestingly, they have wrote one more song during that day. They were only together for two-and-a-half hours. And then they finished the first one in the first 45 minutes.

The song hit No. 1 in both country and adult contemporary and earned an armload of awards, including CMAs, ACMs, CMT, Teen Choice Awards and four Grammy Awards, including Song and Record of the Year.
