If you think for one second that Keith Urban does not have a patriotic song on his arsenal of music, you are in for a surprise. On April 16, 2012, Keith Urban joined the likes of other country artists to pay tribute to all the veterans especially the Navy. The film called ‘Act of Valor’ that was released in the same year tackles the story of US Navy SEALs and US Navy Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen. Urban was asked to write a song and the Australian country singer wrote, ‘For You.’
For You, Keith Urban
Last 21st of September at the Vetsaid concert, Keith Urban decided to pull a Navy Seal on the stage and put him on the spotlight. In return, the veteran thanked Urban of all his effort for gracing the said event for them:
“Keith, I really appreciate all you guys doing this stuff for our veterans, for all of us, but, of course, it’s all for our families. So my wife, my sister-in-law, my brother-in-law’s a vet as well, so we do it for them as well.”
Urban then went on to produce an introduction of his song and he dished about how he came up with ‘For You’ which was also nominated as Best Original Song in the 70th Golden Globes Awards:
“There’s an incredible scene in [Act of Valor] early on when, on this particular mission that the team was on…and it’s a real story…they came into this warehouse looking for the bad guys, and there’s this grenade that gets thrown into the room. The platoon is in there, and one guy from the platoon jumps on the grenade and saves all of his buddies.”
“I said to my co-writer, Monty Powell, ‘We need to write the song from his perspective on how he felt the second he started ascending to heaven. What he would say if he could say anything.’”
Watch the awe-inspiring moment below:
For You
All I saw was smoke and fire
I didn’t feel a thing
But suddenly I was rising higher
And I felt like I just made
The biggest mistake
When I thought about my unborn child
When I thought about my wife
And the answer rang out clear
From somewhere up above
No greater gift has man
Than to lay down his life for love
And I wonder, would I give my life
Could I make that sacrifice
If it came down to it
Could I take the bullet, I would
Yes I would, for you
Maybe you don’t understand
I don’t understand it all myself
But there’s a brother on my left and another on my right
And in his pocket just like mine
He’s got a photograph
And they’re waiting for him back home
It’s weighing on my mind
I’m not trying to be a hero
I don’t wanna die
But right now in this moment, you don’t think twice
