But For the Grace of God

The songs of the Aussie rock star who embraced country music becomes even more refined as it gets older, the same from that of a wine. Keith Urban’s voice remains recognizable because of its unique sound. His voice can make you believe to whatever he tries to convey. And in his song, “But for the Grace of God,” he teaches us to humbly acknowledgement of our nothingness without our Creator, who is the reason for our existence and all wonderful things that are happening to us.

In this song, Urban sings about how he knows that he is blessed. He sings about those things around him that makes him realize  the vastness of God’s grace. It’sthe only thing that separates him from those in spiritual poverty around him. He points out that it’s only by God’s grace that he has everything he has, especially his lady.

Co-written with Charlotte Caffey and Jane Wiedlin of the Go Go’s, Urban scored his first Number One with this tune.

But for the grace of God go I
I must’ve been born a lucky guy
Heaven only knows how I’ve been blessed
With the gift of your love
And I look around and all I see
Is your happiness embracing me
Oh Lord I’d be lost
But for the grace of God

The power of gratitude

“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1

Perhaps, one of the most overused words in all languages is “Thank you.” In all nations and cultures, I believe the importance of saying “Thank you” every time we receive a favor, is automatically observed. And we have all the reasons to be thankful every day. The first breath we take each day after we woke up is a great sign of favor coming from the Lord. We have so much to be grateful for in this life.

However, we often focus on the imperfections and disappointments, and they block our view to the positive light.  This situation causes us to forget to pause and give thanks for all the good things that God has showered upon us. But it’s not too late to make a lasting difference. God’s generosity allowed us to make our own choices. May we then choose to give thanks for every little favor that we receive. Let’s choose to focus on the brighter side of life and also learn to accept imperfections and failures as part of the life.
