It’s heavy, dark, and emotional, but simple. Those are the perfect words to describe Toby Keith’s newest single “Don’t Let the Old Man In.” If you haven’t heard this song yet, it’s something you must do right now.
Age Is Only A Number
Age is only a number, and we only become old when we choose to be. Yes, our body changes physically, and there are things we can’t do like we used to do. However, it is a matter of choice whether you want to see yourself as an old person, where you just sit down and wait for the time to come. Or, you can go out there and do things you know you can still do. This is what Toby Keith is talking about in his song “Don’t Let the Old Man In.” The song reminds us to never limit yourself just because you are old. Instead, live your life like you are still young. Toby’s single can be best understood by older people.
“Don’t Let the Old Man In”
“Don’t’ Let the Old Man In” is a ballad that showcases Toby’s baritone voice. The simplicity of the song’s melody gives more power and focus on the words of the song.
Inspiration Behind the Song
Toby was inspired to write the song because of what Clint Eastwood said. The two met during a golf charity tournament in Pebble Beach, California. Eastwood said to Keith that he’s going to film a new movie called The Mule. He then shared to Keith the plot of the movie. This made Keith wonder how come, Eastwood, despite being old, still manages to go out there and work. He then asked Eastwood the question. What came next were the words that became the title of Keith’s next song.
“I just get up every morning and go out. And I don’t let the old man in”
Clint Eastwood not only directed the movie, but he played the lead character of the movie. Based on a true to life story, the movie pictures the life of a World War II Veteran who works as a drug dealer for a Mexican drug cartel. The Mule has been released last December 14, 2018.
