Johnny Cash Watched as Daughter, Rosanne Gave 1996 Tribute

There has been a lot of tribute given to Johnny Cash and all of these tributes were gold in their own way. A lot of people have covered the Man in Black and did justice to his timeless legacy. However, nothing beats the power of a child singing to his father and this 1996 tribute to dear ole Johnny Cash proved a rather poignant meaning to a soul that we lost and to a daughter who immortalized her father’s legacy.

1996 Johnny Cash Tribute, Rosanne Cash

“My father is a man of many paradoxes. He was raised on a farm and formed by hard manual labor and he merged a poet with a powerful resonant voice. He was brought up a Baptist and yet he has a soul of a mystic. He has lived a hard life, a tough life. And yet he has the beauty, sensitivity and elegance and children that is beyond compare.”

“As a song writer, he is profoundly original.”

Those were the exact words of Rosanne Cash during her 1996 tribute to her father. We couldn’t agree more that this woman who is like a fine wine like her dad, aging gracefully as time passes have brought ‘Walk the Line’ to a different level. Rosanne Cash breathes a feminine touch on ‘Walk the Line’ and made it hers.

On the other hand, we see a proud dad in Johnny Cash’s eyes as he watched his daughter deliver his timeless classic. It was the time when Johnny Cash was already showing signs of physical health decline and it touches our hearts to know that Cash was lucky to have witnessed that he did a pretty good job as a parent.

Walk the Line Lyrics

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I’ll admit that I’m a fool for you
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I’ve known proves that it’s right
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

You’ve got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can’t hide
For you I know I’d even try to turn the tide
Because you’re mine, I walk the line
