A Song for European Audience
In 1975, Johnny Rodriguez had his last No. 1 hit, “Love Put A Song In My Heart.” The hit was written by Ben Peters who was known for two monster hits, Charley Pride’s “Kiss An Angel Good Morning” and Freddy Fender’s “Before The Next Teardrop Falls.” Although, 78 of Ben Peters’ songs made it to the Billboard’s Country Chart.
Attempting to make a song for Europeans, Ben Peters composed “Love Put A Song In My Heart.” Peters took a trip across the Atlantic observing the music of different countries in Europe. After listening to the different music, he noticed that the European audience seems to like a lot of repetition in their lyrics. Thereafter, he set out to write something to reflect the European sound.
A Simple Way of Pitching a Song
Same as Waylon Jennings, Ben Peters lived in Johnny Rodriguez’s neighborhood in Nashville. Peters was personally in touch in giving Rodriguez his demo tape. Their homes were actually positioned very close to each other. So, all he needs to do was just slip the demo tape into Rodriguez’s mailbox. Johnny found the tape and took it into his office.
Peter’s tape had two new compositions, “Daytime Friends” and “Love Put A Song In My Heart.” Johnny Rodriguez liked both, however, Johnny’s wife didn’t like “Daytime Friends” so it went to Kenny Rogers and it became a No. 1 Hit back in 1977.
The positive result definitely came Johnny Rodriguez’s way with “Love Put A Song In My Heart.” The song reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Chart Singles on December 13, 1975.
This song wouldn’t be a No. 1 hit if it wasn’t that good, ain’t it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section, also don’t forget to share this story with your friends and family. God Bless Your heart!
