On the night of June 13, 2010, country music singer Jimmy Dean was found dead at his home in Henrico, Virginia. And today marks his eighth death anniversary and birthday in heaven. Four months prior to his death, Dean’s name was added to the Country Music Hall of Fame class. Had he not died, he would have been officially inducted in October that year. His numerous earlier successes in the music industry propelled him to this definitive victory.

In the late 1950s, Dean hosted his own television variety series, The Jimmy Dean Show. Such program not only cemented his popularity but also helped establish the careers of Patsy Cline and Roy Clark. The two became famous artists themselves and made their own names in country music. Certainly, Cline and Clark have been grateful to Dean for playing a big role in their respective musical career.

In 1961, Dean recorded his novelty song, Big Bad Johnwhich topped the country chart for five weeks. The song also earned him a Grammy Award for Best Country and Western Recording. Aside from this, the singer has produced another No. 1 song entitled “The First Thing Ev’ry Morning (And the Last Thing Ev’ry Night)” in 1965.”

Other hits that Dean recorded include the P.T. 109,” a ballad honoring the young and then-president John F. Kennedy, “Sam Hill,” “Little Black Book,” and a recitation song called, I.O.U. which he dedicated to his mother. Jimmy Dean would have produced more songs in the coming years. However, he preferred to focus on hosting and later appeared on television series and several films.

Additional Trivia

Aside from being a singer, host, and actor, Jimmy Dean was also a businessman. Together with his brother, he put up his own sausage company in 1969. Though the business was sold to the Sara Lee Corporation in 1994, he served as the spokesperson of it until 2004. Also, the main product still bears his name up to the present.
