Hank Snow did not just imitate the likes of Jimmie Rodgers. He had a stand of sharing his music through gospel songs. One fabulous gospel tune Hank and his Wife, Minnie both penned was “Jesus Wept”. We hope you will feel blessed by this good old country gospel song. Keep your wheels spinning and your friends a grinning. Share this song and reflect on them as we go on.

As Jesus drew near Jerusalem, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If this day you only knew what makes for peace–but now it is hidden from your eyes”.

(Luke 19:41-42)

Lyrical Interpretation

Jesus wept and the tears that he shed
Left the stains of sorrow on my heart
For our sins trickin’ world that we’ll regret
We’ll pay the price cause Jesus wept.

There were times in the Scripture when Jesus wept and mourned. Jesus wept over the death of Lazarus. He wept because of man’s sin and the death it brought. There are more occasions, but we chose the instance Jesus wept over Jerusalem and lamented over humankind’s hard hearts, for our reflection today.

Hymnal Reflection

First. Let us picture Jesus weeping. To say he does weep implies that this was not just because of simple sadness. Reasonably, it infers a deeper sorrow that stirred Him to real tears.  Let Jesus’ image weeping sink in.

Second. Jesus was weeping over Jerusalem because, as He entered the city and had a good view, He immediately felt that most people would reject His visit. Pure as His intent was, bringing them salvation, some ignored Jesus out of indifference. Others were furious and wanted His death.

Third. Jesus was not only weeping over Jerusalem. He was also weeping over the people; especially that He considers them His future family of faith. In particular, He wept at the lack of faith He feels within them.

Reflect, today, upon the grave temptation we all face of being unresponsive to Jesus. It is easy for us to have a little faith and just turn to God when it is to our benefit. However,  it is easier to remain indifferent to Him when things in life seem to be going well. Root out any indifference to Jesus today and tell Him you want to serve Him and His holy will with your whole heart. Let us follow His example and rightly weep over the things that make Him weep.
