A member of the MuzikMafia group since 2002, James Otto finally scored his first No. 1 song on the country chart in 2008. It took him more than half a decade to achieve such success. But certainly, such period of waiting was worth it for Otto. His song “Just Got Started Lovin’ You” did not only top the country songs chart ten years ago. Also, Billboard named his song as the Number One single of 2008. It was the first single from Otto’s second album Sunset Man. The song also took almost a year since its release before reaching the chart’s summit.
The First and Only No. 1 Hit
“Just Got Started Lovin’ You” except for its similarity with Conway Twitty‘s sexy approach. Otto enlisted the help of his songwriter friend Jim Femino in the composition of the song. At that time, Femino brought along with him another songwriter and friend Vincent Williams. Otto and Williams met for the first time and such meeting produced what would become the former’s biggest hit. It was Williams who got notice of the sex appeal element in Otto’s material and began comparing it with that of Twitty‘s. From this observation, Williams came up with the most suitable melody for the song. Upon hearing the tune, Otto immediately thought of the song,
“[It] suggested a sexy lyrics and came from a sexy spot.”
It was on this premise that the title of the song came about. The three then went on recording the song and later presented to John Rich who produced Otto’s, Sunset Man. Rich chose the song as the album’s lead single.
It’s exactly a decade ago and the song sits as Otto’s only top country hit to date. The “Soldiers and Jesus” singer seems to have taken some time off from recording. It’s been three years now since he released his last album. But who knows, perhaps he’s just busy working on his next big hit on the music scene.
