“I’m Alright”, Jo Dee's 2nd #1 Hit, Made Her Feel Alright 1

The Song: A Brief Background

“I’m Alright” is another song written by country music singer-songwriter Phil Vassar. And, just like his previously written song “Bye, Bye”, its recording artist Jo Dee Messina was able to bring it to the top of the charts. The year 1998 has been good to the female singer having her releases occupying the topmost position. The song, her second consecutive No. 1 hit, was released in May 1998 and also the title track of her Gold-certified album I’m Alright. Amazed by the track’s success, its songwriter Vassar covered it on his album Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 out in 2006. He made some alterations on the lyrics on his version of the song.

The Highest Selling Album

This second released studio album of Messina is her highest selling album so far. It has been certified Platinum not only once but twice having sold two million copies in the US. Moreover, three singles from the album became Number One on the Billboard Country Songs charts. These include the album’s title track “I’m Alright”, the first single “Bye, Bye” and another one entitled “Stand Beside Me”. In addition to that, the album produced two cover songs of Dottie West that were top 10 hits. Her cover of “Lesson in Leavin’” and “Because You Love Me” peaked at No. 2 and No. 8 on the country charts, respectively.

Notwithstanding the woes surrounding her, the singer asserts in her song that she’s feeling ok. With all those achievements of her single and its album, there’s no reason for Messina not to feel real alright.
