Americana music's Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, and Margo Price team up for a spankin' brand new Supergroup, The Highwomen.
Shires was the first to reveal the news during a candid interview with Louisville radio station WFPK on Wednesday, the 9th of January. She said that she first pitched the idea to Carlile.
"We were at (Nashville venue) the Basement for some reason, and I told [Brandi] about this idea I had called The Highwomen. And she was like, 'I love that idea.' And I was like, 'I want you to be in it. And I want you to help me run this, because I'm terrible at business, and my voice isn't as great as yours.' And she’s like, “Yeah I’ll be in your band The Highwomen!” Then we asked Margo and she said yeah. Then we got guests like Sheryl Crow… any women that wanna come in, it’s all inclusive, it’s not like man-haters [laughs].
After Carlile agreed to the project, the pair agreed to invite Price. Their name is actually a clever wordplay and a nod to Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson's supergroup The Highwaymen. Shires expressed that the group will start recording by March, and they will feature guests artists including Sheryl Crow.
Since the interview, Shires have released a statement on her official Facebook Page:
“I accidentally jumped the gun when I spoke with WFPK about my idea for a women’s super group called The Highwomen. Brandi and I do have something in the works and we will announce the exact details when it comes to fruition. Just wanted to let you know that nothing is official and this isn’t news yet.”
So, there isn't anything official yet for the three women. But, the project is now highly anticipated, and everyone can't wait to see what these three talented women have in store!
