Hee Haw and the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet

The Hee Haw show is an American television variety show that caters a blend of country music and humor providing joy and laughter to every American household. Also, it featured “Kornfield Kounty,” a fictional rural community, as their backdrop. The original show aired for over two decades starting in 1969 until 1993. Three years after its last appearance on TV, reruns of the show started airing from 1996 to 1997. In 2008, RFD-TV incarnated the show and held a rerun until this time. Moreover, Hee Haw was hosted by country music artists Buck Owens and Roy Clark.

On the other hand, the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet was a group singing gospel hymns on the show. Obviously, they were named after the show. The group comprised of country music singers Buck OwensRoy ClarkGrandpa Jones, and Kenny Price. The Hee Haw Gospel Quartet were not only a talented group who can make every single bone of you laugh, but they were also a group of great voices. When the show was in its sacred time, they drop the corn and laughter, and transform into holy men. They come across with some classic gospel hymns and leads the singing. The show’s segment of the quartet was produced by Jerry Kennedy. Interestingly, he also played the guitar and dobro on the show.

The Quartet Songs

In addition, a number of gospel songs of the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet had been covered over and over many times. Most noteworthy, the highlight performances that they have done include the gospel standards such as  “Shall We Gather at the River,” “Dust on the Bible,” “Where Could I Go But to the Lord,” and “Just Over In Glory Land.” Of course, gospel singing will never be complete without the most popular and obligatory sound of “Amazing Grace.”

One of the classic hymns written in the 1930’s that the quartet performed was “I’ll Be Somewhere Listening.” It is a song of obedience and praise to God. The group performed it at the Hee Haw show in 1977. The Hee Haw Gospel Quartet sure made the hymn extraordinary as they praised the Lord with their melodic voices, a sound no one could not resist.
