Love of family is one of the prominent themes observed in country music. As such, many artists use their music to channel their emotions and declare their love for their partners, children, parents, etc. Likewise, many of the songs written and recorded by several singers drew inspiration from their loved ones. For instance, Kenny Chesney came up with the song “You Had Me from Hello” which originated from a movie line that his then-wife, Renee Zellweger, delivered.
Likewise, “I Do” is a powerful statement that could commence a couple’s new life together. The power and passion it exudes do not exempt it from being used in a song. A close example of a tune that carries these words was Clint Black and wife Lisa’s “When I Said I Do.” It’s the couple’s romantic way of renewing their love for each other.
Now, here’s another song that’s perfectly fitted for couples or partners especially when they affirm their affection for each other. Using the words “I Do” as its title, the song is by Canadian country music singer Paul Brandt.
The Song “I Do”
Brandt wrote the song for his wife, Robin. Hence, it is also known as “Robin’s Song.” As it is a tune for his beloved, the singer has apparently poured out his heart and soul to it. Through this honest expression of the heart, Brandt professes his love for his life partner. Such proclamation comes in the form of a marriage vow. That then makes for a perfect wedding song. Without a doubt, “I Do” was and is still a favorite tune during weddings and anniversaries.
The song was the second single from Brandt’s debut album Calm Before the Storm and was released in July 1996. Reaching No. 2 on Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, the song remained Brandt’s most successful single in the United States to date. It’s also one of his Top 5 hits in the US along with his earlier release, “My Heart Has a History.” Of course, it was a top hit in Canada where the singer originated. For two weeks, the song stayed atop the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart. Moreover, the song became a major crossover hit entering the Top 5 of the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.
