One of the miracles Jesus performed was when He turned the water into wine. It was the first miracle He performed in a crowd. After which, He followed it by healing the sick, raising the dead, and many more. If you want to read all of Jesus’ miracles you can find it on the Bible.
However, it is not only in the Bible where we can hear or read God’s miraculous works. Even in real life and in songs, His grace is being celebrated. One known gospel song to praise God’s power was in Johnny Cash‘s song.
Johnny Cash’s Inspiration Behind “He Turned the Water Into Water”
“He Turned the Water Into Wine” was a song Cash wrote in 1968. If you have heard the song, you’ll know that this story of turning water into wine was actually found in the Bible. The story of Jesus turning water into wine is found in John 2:1-11.
“And the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside.” – John 2: 9
Finding Inspiration in Israel
Cash was not only inspired by a certain passage in the Bible. He said that the inspiration of the song came to him when he was on tour in Israel. He visited the place where Jesus turned water into wine. In that place, there was a church where Cash heard the sound of the water, and it was a magnificent experience according to him. After leaving the place, he kept whispering to himself He turned the water into wine. Soon, Cash finished writing the song.
“And I said under my breath, ‘He turned the water into wine,’ of all things. On the way to Tiberius in the car in the next few minutes I wrote this song.”
The Holy Land2
His recording of “He Turned Water into Wine” was one of the tracks from his album The Holy Land. The album was a masterpiece because in here, Cash showcased his talent as a singer and songwriter. Some of the songs were recorded on-site using a tape recorder. Furthermore, the songs he wrote were also written the moment he was inspired by the places he visited in Israel.
The Holy Land album was able to secure a spot on the chart. It reached number six on the country albums chart and number fifty-four on the pop chart.
