“Hollaback Girl” is perhaps one of, if not the, signature song of Gwen Stefani. Many music lovers know and associate the song to her. The song was a hit worldwide and spent a couple of weeks at the top of the charts, not to mention that it took the number 1 spot on the Billboard’s Hot 100 in the U.S.
Hilariously however, the one man we all thought would know about this turns out to not recognize it. In an appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in October of 2018, the country star played a game called “Name That Song”.
During the game, Fallon’s band, The Roots, would be playing a song one instrument at a time while guests try to figure out what the song is. Shelton was not able to guess “Hollaback Girl.” He lamented on this saying:
“I came to this show to promote my album and I’m losing everything! Everything in my life,”
When Stefani appeared on Fallon’s show on his September 23 episode, he asked the star about it. She laughed it off and said with a grin:
“That is so funny, He should have known that one, but he’s country. He doesn’t listen to that.”
Gwen Stefani Returns the Favor to Blake Shelton
In an interview with Andy Cohen during his SiriusXM Radio Andy show, Stefani admits that she didn’t know who Blake Shelton was before meeting him. She explains this saying:
“I didn’t even know he existed before the show, I didn’t even know that he was a human being on this planet.”
The two have started dating in 2015 and have been together since. The two met on The Voice and all started from there. Stefani also talks about how it took a while to accept their differences saying:
“It’s crazy. I mean, now it’s normal, I’ve accepted that he’s a true hillbilly and all those things.”
Of course it is understandable that the two won’t really know much about each other. With their music genres being very different, the two never really got a chance to cross paths before The Voice, but it is still funny when things like these happen.
Both stars are coaches on the current season of The Voice.
