“Goodnight, sweetheart” is an expression we usually say to someone dear to us before going to bed. By saying these words, we show our love and care for them. It means that we are wishing them to have a good and peaceful sleep. On the other hand, hearing these words gives a comforting feeling to someone. Isn’t it?
Few Words About the Song
Inspired by the comforting message of the phrase, three songwriters collaborated to write a song about it. Using the expression as their work’s title, Kim Williams, L. David Lewis, and Randy Boudreaux have successfully penned the wordings of “Goodnight Sweetheart”. This country song was first recorded in 1992 by American country music artist Joe Diffie for his album Regular Joe. Another country music artist, David Kersh, covered it four years later. The song was recorded for his album bearing the same title Goodnight Sweetheart that was released in 1996. The song is the album’s second single and it peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Unfortunately, it didn’t reach the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart’s top 40.
Thoughts From the Song’s Lyrics
The song’s composers came up with a great song, indeed. It tells about two people bound by love but separated by physical distance. Due to the man’s nature of job, he needs to be away from the person who needs him the most every day. As he was preparing to leave for work one night, he saw a note from his woman that resonates on his mind each time he closes his eyes. The message cited a prayer for his safety while the two are away from each other. Also, an assurance that his love will be kept by his better half in her heart was included.
Goodnight Sweetheart sleep tight, wherever you are
God hold you in his arms while we’re apart
Though you’re far away your love will stay tucked away here in my heart
Goodnight Sweetheart sleep tight wherever you are
If you find the wordings as meaningful and the message as touching, you’ll certainly love listening to the song too.
