There have been plenty of debates in our society about the value of human life. Whether we are talking about the crimes of murder, abortion, death penalty or the “an eye for an eye” concept, the value of human life has always come up but is never actually given a proper answer.

When we talk about life, our opinions often get split in the middle and depending on where we stand on certain issues, our answers or appraisal of life can differ greatly. However, as Christians, when talking about the value of life, we kind of already have an answer and that is thanks to God’s appraisal of our lives.

There is no question about it, God loves us. He loves us so much that He gave us Jesus just so we can be saved from eternal damnation. The Bible’s whole point is basically that we are saved because of the love of God and the salvation that Jesus brought us.

So what does that mean when it comes to our worth? The answer is simple, life is precious and must be protected because God values us greatly. The heart of the bible, John 3:16, proves this very much.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son . . .”

Those words alone are a statement of fact on the great value that God has given us. God’s appraisal of us is one of the biggest proofs we have about why human life is valuable. To us Christians, because of God’s appraisal, we have to respect and value the life given to us and the life given to others.

Whenever a debate that involves life comes up, as Christians, let us all try and remember God’s love and value of us and try to follow His mindset about it.
