George Jones and Tammy Wynette for the First Time
George Jones recorded a version of the song with his ex-wife Tammy Wynette. Jones and Wynette changed the title to “Someone I Used to Know.” The song was one of the tracks on their album We Go Together, which was released in 1971. This was their first album together as a married couple. Their album peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Moreover, the album remained on the chart for a total of 31 weeks.
Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner Version
Aside from George Jones making another version with his wife, the song was also covered by Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner in 1968. Parton and Wagoner’s version peaked at No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs in 1969. They changed the title of the song to “Just Someone I Used To Know.”
