“Love in the Hot Afternoon,” Content
A simple yet beautiful song that draws us a picture of a casual afternoon of love between two people. Gene Watson’s “Love in the Hot Afternoon” is a story of a man who met a woman, specifically a Bourbon Street Lady, whom he spent one hot afternoon with. The song began with Gene, who is the narrator of the song, listening to the busy streets of the city. A street vendor is shouting outside while he watches the man and his lady lying in bed sleeping. Furthermore, the narrator mentioned the woman who is with him and since something happened between them, the mystery of her is gone. However, despite that, they still spend time together, since the narrator mentioned that they go to the park together and also talk about things.
