From Joey + Rory’s Christmas album, “A Farmhouse Christmas” released in 2011, here’s “The Gift” that matters to God’s heart.
Briefly, the song is a touching story about a poor orphan named Maria whose sacrificial love pleased God. She found an injured bird by the roadside and seeing its pitiful state, Maria did her best to nurse it back to health. Then she used her last peso and bought a cage for the bird and brought it to church as her Christmas offering
Seeing people’s expensive gifts of diamonds and perfumes decked on the manger though, Maria felt that hers was insignificant. But God spoke and told Maria to let the bird loose. To her surprise, out the bird flew as if it has never been hurt. The bird’s a Nightingale and upon release, it sang a beautiful song. In God’s eyes, Maria’s gift was the most valuable over all the other presents which the town folks brought.
