First, our sincere condolences to the family of Rev. Billy Graham: immediate and extended. Since his repose on February 21, 2018, the whole nation and the world mourns his death.
He gave his life for a divine call. In effect, America and the world kneeled before God through his evangelistic crusades. Hear his final words before he left us to be with the Lord. His voice may waver now due to aging, but the strength of his conviction remains and the truth of his message has not faltered.
The Final Message of Billy Graham
The Nation’s Pastor
For more than six decades, William Franklin Graham Jr. (November 7, 1918 – February 21, 2018) devoted his life to doing evangelistic crusades. Millions flock to hear him speak and tons responded. An influential speaker, the fame of his ministry was spread worldwide. Out of the world’s one hundred-ninety-five countries, more than a hundred and eighty knew him and have heard his preaching.
He was a confidant and a counselor to a handful of presidents. Among them were Harry Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Even known repressive leaders welcomed his presence. One is North Korea’s Kim Il-sung. Kim Il-sung had allowed him to preach in Pyongyang. Though that was in sanctioned churches, it’s still a feat for itinerant clergymen considering it’s a communist country.
For all his endeavors, former U.S President, George H.W. Bush branded him as “America’s Pastor.” And did you know that he was also a mentor to President George W. Bush?
Though a Southern Baptist, Graham was an inspiration to people from different faith groups. Many admired his dedication to reaching the world for Christ through the preaching of the gospel. Of course, he still had his share of detractors and critics. Nevertheless, it’s still fair to say he’s one of the real deals in Christianity.
Before you go, here’s Graham’s Gaither family paying him homage. Rest in peace Pastor Billy.
