Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards is not just about presenting the best of the bests. It is also spiced up with entertaining performances and seemingly strange moments that make it all exciting to watch. Featuring today are Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton with Katy Perry, Florida Georgia Line with the Backstreet Boys, and Taylor Swift.
First of the Firsts Moment
In the 1975 ACM Award, Loretta Lynn became a huge force in paving a path for women in the country music industry. Her efforts stored were paid off when she was awarded an ACM Entertainer of the Year. This was the first time a female had ever won. Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, John Denver and Mickey Gilly were the other nominees. When Lynn’s was declared the winner, the crowd went wild, with a standing applause and loud cheering. During her acceptance speech, she said with a wide smile,
“I’d like to say that I sure am proud. And I want to thank all of you.”
A Glittering Moment
An excited Kacey Musgraves introduced Katy Perry, who also presented the Tex Ritter award to Dolly Parton for her “Coat of Many Colors” movie. Dolly said,
“I don’t think I’m all that, but I ‘preciate the standing ovation… I knew Tex Ritter and that makes this award even more special to me.”
The two continued to glisten and shine their way through a Dolly medley that included “Coat of Many Colors,” “Jolene” and “9 to 5.” Pop, rock and disco Katy sure was sweet not to overthrow Dolly’s voice.
Florida Georgia Line and Backstreet Boys Convergence
It was totally a view of two heroes combined. It was not a surprise for some to see Florida Georgia Line team up with Backstreet Boys during last year’s ACM Awards. They did a one-two combo of FGL’s single “God, Your Mama and Me,” and BSB’s 1997 classic “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”. These two groups have performed together at least twice before this merging. Notice how the country duo sang the Backstreet Boys’ “Everybody” with the boy band on stage complete with choreography. At first, it seemed like business as usual.
But then, without warning, came “Everybody” and the crowd went nuts. Especially, Tim Mcgraw and once FGL members Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley stood in formation with the Backstreet Boys and acted out their dance moves. Carrie Underwood sang along, of course, while Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman, Faith Hill and McGraw were dancing right alongside her. In fact, the entire audience of fans partied while singing along to every “Backstreet’s back, alright!” and dancing as if no one was watching. Of course, millions of people were watching face and undoubtedly many of those people at home were doing the same thing. Who would not be helpless in the face of the matching influences of nostalgia?
A Magical Moment
One time, David Copperfield, who Reba called “the magician of the century”, made Taylor Swift mystically appear. Following that was a magical award to Taylor Swift. There were many questions about this occurrence. However, is there really a magician of the century award? Who gives it and who else is on the run?
