“Crying in the Chapel” is one of the most famous Christian Gospel hymns. Also, it is one of the most covered songs by numerous artists. Perhaps, it’s because of the meaning and the message as well as its touching melody. In most religious events and gatherings, the hymn is mostly used. With this, to warm our spirits, let’s listen to the classical rendition of the legendary Elvis Presley.

Elvis Presley is not new to singing and recording gospel hymns. He often performs gospel hymns on his concerts and performances, too. It is proof of how close he is to God. It can be said then that Elvis Presley had a great belief, love, and conviction to God.

Crying in the Chapel…

Artie Glenn wrote the words and lyrics of “Crying in the Chapel.”  He wrote the hymn especially for his son Darell Glenn to sing. On the other hand, while Darell Glenn was in high school, he recorded the hymn in 1953. Darell Glenn recorded the hymn along with his father’s band “Rhythm Riders.”

Moreover, Valley Publishers released the hymn since Hill and Range Songs and Acuff-Rose Music rejected the recording. It became a massive hit all throughout the world. It also became a top charting single of Darell Glenn.

In 1960, Elvis Presley first recorded “Crying in the Chapel.” It was supposed to be a part of his album “His Hand in Mine.” However, it was not released and was put to shelve. Finally, in 1965, the hymn was released. It became very successful as the audience embraced it. In fact, it placed at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Two years later, the hymn was included on Elvis Presley’s album “How Great Thou Art.”
