Artie Glenn wrote the words and lyrics of “Crying in the Chapel.” He wrote the hymn especially for his son Darell Glenn to sing. On the other hand, while Darell Glenn was in high school, he recorded the hymn in 1953. Darell Glenn recorded the hymn along with his father’s band “Rhythm Riders.”
Moreover, Valley Publishers released the hymn since Hill and Range Songs and Acuff-Rose Music rejected the recording. It became a massive hit all throughout the world. It also became a top charting single of Darell Glenn.
In 1960, Elvis Presley first recorded “Crying in the Chapel.” It was supposed to be a part of his album “His Hand in Mine.” However, it was not released and was put to shelve. Finally, in 1965, the hymn was released. It became very successful as the audience embraced it. In fact, it placed at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Two years later, the hymn was included on Elvis Presley’s album “How Great Thou Art.”
From all the various artists who recorded “Crying in the Chapel,” it was Elvis Presley’s version which garnered a massive response.
