Elvis Presley’s Greatest Sacred Performance: Amazing Grace

Elvis Presley’s Greatest Sacred Performance: Amazing Grace 1

Elvis Presley was known for his jivey and rock and roll music. With this, he was embraced wholeheartedly by the country music enthusiasts. Through his charismatic personality and dedication to country compositions, he was able to get through every one of us. Furthermore, it was not just rock and roll that he catered to. In fact, Presley sang songs about God and his prestige. An example of this was his song “Amazing Grace”, this essentially was one of the greatest sacred performances of his career.

Elvis Presley’s Greatest Sacred Performance…

“Amazing Grace: His Greatest Sacred Performances” is a two-disc compilation of studio master recordings released in 1994. This includes his cover of the song “Amazing Grace”.

The set comprises recordings of gospel music made by Presley during his career. It includes all the contents of all three gospel albums Presley recorded. Meanwhile, other songs had appeared on singles, an extended play single, and other albums. The set also contains five previously unreleased selections, and the two discs present the studio masters in chronological session order.

The Song…

“Amazing Grace” is a Christian hymn published in 1779. The lyrics were written by the English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton.

Newton wrote the words from personal experience. He grew up without any particular religious conviction. But his life’s path formed due to a variety of twists and coincidences. This is because of his intractable insubordination. Furthermore, he became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his vessel off the coast of County Donegal, Ireland. Severely frustrated, he called out to God for mercy, a moment that marked his spiritual conversion. He continued his slave trading career until 1754 or 1755 until he began studying Christian theology.

The Lyrics…

Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see

When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’ve first begun

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come
‘Tis Grace has brought me safe thus far
And Grace will lead me home

Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see, blind but now I see
