If you’re looking for a song to remember the rock and roll music of the 1970’s, then “Take It Easy” is the best one, to begin with. It can definitely flash you back to the real country rock and roll of the past. With the voices of The Eagles, it will definitely suit your mood and bring back the memories of yesterday.

In particular, if you’re looking for another rendition of the song, might as well listen to Travis Tritt’s cover. We know The Eagles can nail any song specifically their own but Travis Tritt gave justice to the song. It is Tritt’s tribute to the band, but it turned out to be one of his best-recorded songs.

A Bit About The Song…

Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey are the creative people behind the words and lyrics of the song. Interestingly, it was the band’s first single and was released on May 1, 1972. Moreover, the song became No. 12 on the July 22, 1972, Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Furthermore, “Take It Easy” was the opening track on the band’s debut album “Eagles.” Undoubtedly, the song became one of their signature songs. Also, it is listed as one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that molded Rock and Roll.

The Composition of the Song…

Jackson Browne started composing “Take It Easy” in 1971 for his debut album. It’s just that he was having a problem furnishing the song. Browne asked help from Frey who added some words to fit the harmony. Fortunately, the song was finished, and Browne was happy with the outcome. Because of Frey’s contribution, Browne listed Frey as a co-writer. The song then became the band’s very first single on their debut album.

Since “Take It Easy” was originally for Browne’s debut single alone. He managed to record his version as part of his album “For Everyman.” However, it didn’t top the chart.

The Lyrics…

Well I’m a-runnin’ down the road try’n to loosen my load

I’ve got seven women on my mind

Four that want to own me, two that want to stone me

One says she’s a friend of mine

Take it easy, take it easy

Don’t let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy

Lighten up while you still can

Don’t even try to understand

Just find a place to make your stand, and take it easy

Well, I’m a standin’ on a corner in Winslow, Arizona

Such a fine sight to see

It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford

Slowin’ down to take a look at me

Come on, baby, don’t say maybe

I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me

We may lose and we may win, though we will never be here again

So open up I’m climbin’ in, so take it easy

Well, I’m a runnin’ down the road tryin’ to loosen my load

Got a world of trouble on my mind

Lookin’ for a lover who won’t blow my cover, she’s so hard to find

Take it easy, take it easy

Don’t let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy

Come on baby, don’t say maybe

I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me

Oh, we got it easy

We outghta take it easy
