“Whiskey Lullaby” Teaches Us an Important Lesson

When we watch the official music video for “Whiskey Lullaby,” the first thing that comes into mind is adultery. It is followed by excessive drinking by the cheated husband which unfortunately leads to death. But what caused this? Lies. And the sad thing was, the wife did love her husband. Since he was not there all the time, she had to look for someone who can compensate for his love.

In the song “Whiskey Lullaby,” the deceitful wife lied to her hard-working husband while he was gone. I wanted to highlight the word LIE. Nobody talked about this enough since it was all about the wife’s adultery and the hurt that followed. To me, this is the beginning of a complicated situation. The husband felt sad that his wife was cheating on him, but what hurt him the most was when she was not honest about everything that happened.

The Cost of Lies

Let me ask you this question. If the wife was honest from the beginning about her affair, do you think the husband would drink himself to death? It is unknown whether the husband even had a drinking problem, to begin with, so his shock about the hidden affair led him to drink so much and numb the pain away.

We’re not excusing adultery in any way, shape, or form. But I keep on questioning, what if in the first place, the wife told her husband that she was seeing someone else? A relationship built in lies will never work out because the truth will always haunt you. In fact, the truth is the only thing that you can’t change in this world so what is the point of lying? To me, everything could have been avoided if the wife simply admitted that she was having an affair and maybe, they could have separated in good terms or maybe fix their relationship.
