“I Wouldn’t Want To Live If You Didn’t Love Me” By Don Williams 1

If I may ask: What do you think makes the world go round? Is it wealth, power, or influence? No matter what your point of view is, we, human beings meet at one point. I bet everyone would agree that “love” is the most dominant of all. And that’s exactly what Don Williams meant in his song “I Wouldn’t Want To Live If You Didn’t Love Me”.

The Lyrics…

Sometimes you may think I take you for granted
And granted, sometimes maybe I do
‘Cause I’ve grown so used to you lying next to me
That I wouldn’t want to live if you didn’t love me

No I wouldn’t want to get up in the morning if you weren’t there
To kiss me and start my day off right
And to be waiting when I get home with loving just for me
No I wouldn’t want to live if you didn’t love me

It’s love that makes the world go round
And my love for you just grows with leaps and bounds
‘Cause you know just what to do when the world has turned all blue
And I wouldn’t want to live if you didn’t love me

The Realization…

In life, there are certain things we aren’t sure about. These things somewhat, somehow affect us the way it shouldn’t or the way we aren’t expecting. Most of the time, we ask ourselves why are we in a state that we didn’t ask for. Whether good or bad, we still question every circumstance.

Don Williams doesn’t directly point out that “love” makes the world go round. He didn’t use precise words to define it. However, it is merely found between the lines. And if you know what I mean, it’s the whole significance of the song that makes the world go round.

Facts ‘Bout The Song…

Al Turney wrote “I Wouldn’t Want To Live If You Didn’t Love Me” and was Don Williams’ very first No.1 song. The song was part of Williams’ album “Volume 3”. It topped the country charts in April 1974. Additionally, the single spent a week at No.1 and total of 12 weeks on the country charts.

Furthermore, it overpowered the other country artists and their songs. These were Waylon Jennings’ “I’m A Ramblin’ Man” at No.2, “I Love My Friend” by Charlie Rich at No.3, “Please Don’t Tell Me How The Story Ends” by Ronnie Milsap at No.4, and “Big Four Poster Bed” by Brenda Lee.

Truly the song made a good record in 1974. Not only the song itself made it to top but as well as what the song truly means.
