“I Will Always Love You” is one of the greatest songs of all time. Dolly Parton wrote the words and lyrics, recorded in 1973, and initially released the song in 1974. She was praised due to the well-detailed lyrics and ultimate performance. Also, the song received a massive response and it was commercially successful all throughout the world. It even placed at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart twice. It put at number one in June 1974 and October 1982.

After eighteen years, Whitney Houston released her version. The song was also used in her blockbuster movie “The Bodyguard” along with Kevin Costner. Fortunately, her version was a gigantic success. Due to her version, the song became more recognized in the whole world. On the other hand, the song topped many charts. Also, she received numerous awards from different award-giving bodies, especially at the Grammys. The most notable was “Record of the Year” and “Female Best Pop Vocal Performance” at the 36th Grammy Award.

Both, Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston outpoured their whole being recording and performing “I Will Always Love You.” Undoubtedly, Whitney Houston made it more popular. Due to this, was there a feud between Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston?

The Controversy…

It has been reported that the two had beef over the song. Some reports said that Dolly Parton wouldn’t like to perform the song. The tabloid press released Dolly Parton agreed to not performing the song for a couple of months while Whitney Houston’s cover is still on the charts. However, both denied the rumors. They were both speaking good things about each other in interviews.

And to clarify things, Dolly Parton thanked Whitney Houston for bringing the song into a wider audience and increasing the amount of legacy to her song. Additionally, when Whitney Houston won the “Record of the Year” at the Grammys, Dolly Parton along with David Foster presented her with the said award.

Meanwhile, Whitney Houston praised Dolly Parton for writing and creating a beautiful song.
